Icon for ‘read-only’ stuff

Dear lazyweb,

Is there any icon for representing ‘read-only’ stuff, that indicates that the thing you are dealing with is read only?

In my case, I’m talking about VNC view-only connections. But the icon could be useful for text editors, for instance.

FISL - Third day

Today was the last day here in FISL. We had Leonardo Fontenelle, our main guy in translation team, giving a talk along with KDE guys, about the translation process.

I really loved FISL, I can’t wait for next edition!

FISL - Second day

Today was a great day here at FISL.

We had the GNOME talk, and so many people have demonstrated interest in contributing to GNOME. Even lucasr’ twin brother was there.

Luciana, Izabel, Tiago and me (at GNOME talk)

We have published Planet GNOME Brazil, which aggregates blogs from Brazilian contributors.

I have uploaded some photos to flickr (tagged with ‘fisl’ tag), check them out ;)

FISL is really a big, great event, with more than 7000 attendees. Tomorrow is the last day, and I will blog more about it.

Note: It is amazing to see lots of people with GNOME shirts around ;)

Lucas at FISL

Who said lucasr didn’t come to FISL?

me and lucasr (hahaha)

His name is Michel, and he is going to be our newest translator!

FISL - First day

I’m here at Porto Alegre, Brazil, in FISL (Internacional Free Software Forum), the biggest free software event in Brazil.

We have organized a GNOME booth, and talked with many people about development for GNOME apps, translation of GNOME, and just talked about GNOME itself. It’s amazing to meet the people you know only from emails or chats.

Tomorrow we have a talk about our community, news on GNOME 2.22 and getting envolved.

I will post more photos tomorrow. PS: We have got amazing t-shirts!

History meme

OK, everybody does that:

history|awk '{a[$2]++ } END{for(i in a){print a[i] ” ” i}}’|sort -rn|head
103 l
82 svn
72 cd
22 rm
20 vi
20 make
17 sudo
16 grep
15 g
10 ps

l == ‘ls -lh’
g == ‘gnome-open’

Statistics for GNOME development

I just read an article about Linux Kernel Development, it is really a nice read. It gives us numbers about how the kernel has grown up, and the people/companies behind the scenes.

If you did not read it yet, do it now, it is a quick read.

I was wondering if we have some similar article related to the GNOME development. I would love to read it.

Bookmarks with folders

Dear lazyweb,

What is the easiest way to create a bookmarks structure with folders/subfolder feature?

Currently Vinagre’s bookmarks don’t support this, and is implemented through  an .ini-like file (GKeyFile).

Am I supposed to create and deal with a xml file by myself? Or is there any solution for this somewhere already implemented?

Thank you!

ANNOUNCE: Vinagre 0.5 (aka 2.22)

Hi.

I have just released Vinagre - VNC Client for GNOME - 0.5 today. This release is officially part of GNOME Desktop 2.22.

There were no major changes since 0.4; most work was bug fixing and polish.

What’s new in 0.5:

  • Documentation, thanks to Vinicius Depizzol and Jaap A. Haitsma;
  • Man page, thanks to Emilio Pozuelo Monfort;
  • GNOME-VFS was replaced by the new GIO;
  • Support for vnc:// URL’s: clicking will open Vinagre;
  • Many bugs fixed;
  • Interface translated into more than 40 languages.

Thanks to all people who have contributed with this release, specially the gtk-vnc gang ;-) !
